What is Bcrypt?
Bcrypt is a password-hashing function designed by Niels Provos and David Mazières. It is based on the Blowfish cipher and incorporates a salt to protect against rainbow table attacks and an adaptive cost factor to resist brute-force searches.
Why is it slow?
Bcrypt is intentionally slow. The "cost" factor determines how many iterations the algorithm performs. Higher cost makes it more resistant to brute-force attacks by requiring more computational power to check each password.
